How does Canada Scene handle image rights and copyright?
Canada Scene only uses images, graphics, and other media that we have licensed, that are in the public domain, or that are used with clear permission from the rights holder. We also rely on fair dealing for news reporting and commentary. If you believe your copyright has been infringed, please submit a detailed takedown notice.
Our Terms of Use further outline the permitted use of content on our site. We do not knowingly publish material that violates another party’s copyright. When we receive a valid takedown request, we act promptly to remove or disable access to the allegedly infringing content.
What should a takedown request include?
A valid copyright takedown request must contain specific information to allow us to identify and evaluate the claim. Without these details, we may be unable to process your request.
- Your full name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
- A clear identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed (e.g., a photograph, article, or video).
- The exact URL or location on canadascene.org where the allegedly infringing material appears.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the rights holder or authorised to act on their behalf.
- Your physical or electronic signature.

Where should takedown requests be sent?
All copyright takedown requests must be emailed to copyright@canadascene.org. You may also contact us through our Contact page for general inquiries, but formal notices require the dedicated copyright email address to ensure prompt handling by our designated agent.
Canada Scene recommends sending your request with a read receipt or delivery confirmation. We acknowledge receipt of every valid notice within two business days and begin our investigation immediately.
How does Canada Scene respond to takedown notices?
Upon receiving a complete takedown notice, Canada Scene reviews the claim and may remove or disable access to the disputed material. We notify the user who posted the content (if applicable) and provide an opportunity for a counter-notice under Canadian copyright law.
We respect fair dealing and user rights. If we determine the use is lawful (e.g., news reporting, critique, or research), we may decline to take down the material and will explain our reasoning in writing. We also maintain a public record of takedown actions in compliance with transparency principles, as outlined in our Ownership & Funding page. Counter-notices should be sent to the same copyright@canadascene.org address.
